Not
only did men of St Peter's attend, but men from a number
of churches around the area, totalling nearly 120 men
at the breakfast.
Carl's
message is simple, yet tragic and worrying - only 30%
of church-goers are men and the number is declining,
so what are we doing about it? Answer: Nowhere near
enough!
It's
a statistical fact that in 93% of cases if a man comes
to faith then his family will come to faith too. It
is also a fact that it is much harder to attract a guy
to faith and very few churches have an active programme
aimed at doing just that.
Christian
Vision for Men aims to:
"Equip the church to introduce every man
in the UK to Jesus Christ."
Carl's answer is to get more UK men to faith through
Jesus by encouraging churches to operate a programme
of outreach activities targeted specifically at men.
He wants us to get the message across to men that the
journey of coming to faith through Jesus can be an exciting
and fulfilling experience that can be combined with
fun and friendship along the way.
Carl's
address also brought home to us the fact that the reduction
in numbers of men having faith and attending church
has also had an effect on the society we live in, with
a decline in moral standards, increased crime and increased
family problems. Some American statistics indicate that
children being raised without the guiding influence
of a good father are more likely to commit crime, be
involved in substance abuse and prone to isolation and
depression. Good fathers are good role models.
Despite
giving us some shocking home truths, Carl's talk was
one of the most inspiring the Men's Group has witnessed
- not only did he stimulate many questions, he motivated
all present to go forth and actively spread the word
to male friends and associates.
Christian
Vision for Men is a movement aiming to unite men's groups
at churches across the UK and inspire them to target
through outreach activities non-Christian men to show
them that being Christian doesn't mean being wimpy and
dull and that coming to faith can have a major beneficial
effect upon their lives and the lives of their family.
